Dead of Night - Will's Review

This 1946 anthology movie sees an architect, Walter, arrive at the home of a perspective client during a party. After experiencing déjà vu, Walter realises that he has dreamed of this night, and is filled with dread. This, of course, turns the conversation to the supernatural, and 5 guests each tell a tale of their own.

Maybe I'm a little ADHD, but I love anthology movies; there's something about the bite-size story that appeals to me no matter how obvious the twist.

A couple of the stories here wouldn't be out of place on "Tales From The Crypt", and even the wraparound has a classic Twilight Zone feel to it.

The stories are even in just about the perfect order; building in both quality and length as the film progresses. The last story in particular is excellent, and clearly served as the inspiration for 1978's Magic; a film I have a very large soft-spot for.

I'm not going to go into the details of the stories (as I've mentioned before, there's often little one can say about a 15 minute film before spoilers start creeping in) but suffice to say I enjoyed them all (albeit some more than others).

Form a quality standpoint it looks good, and the acting is solid. If you enjoy anthology films, or short films, and particularly if you're a fan of Tales From The Crypt and The Twilight Zone; give this one a whirl.
